As a kid, Itaska State Park was the first place I spent days exploring. At first, 15-year old Steve headed to the headwaters for the Mississippi River, but after that, I explored the amazing network of foot-trails and sights.
Forty years after my first trip to Itaska, I spent the day here to give my legs a rest, so there’s no map today. I also rested my soul with all the lovely sights, and could feel 15 year-old Steve on the trails.
Cycling through forests in Itaska felt much better than forests I’d cycled through days before.
Wonderful bike trails.
I always like locking my bike to a “No Bikes” sign.
This is the main lodge at Itaska State Park, Douglas Lodge. I love the archatechture.
This staircase is short walk from Douglas Lodge.
I’ve gone to folk concerts here.
This is a rebuilt store, from the ealry days of Itaska State Park.
Love wildflowers.
Sunsets are even more special here.
