Especially Generous Strangers

This blog often mentions generous strangers. On August 9, I met Marion & David. Their generosity went beyond what any wayward cyclist can reasonably expect.

The intense rain on the previous day left me cold and soaked to the skin, and more. It was one of those wet and cold moments where the thought of drying out and warming up seems like it’ll take days.

In that case, few things feel better than a warm meal.

I also had a room to myself with a wonderful view and a shed to do some overdue work on my bike.

And there was more. They reserved a place for me and others at a nearby lake.

I stayed two nights, and by the time I left, my back was a bit better. But more important, my spirit was lifted again by how generous people can be. Their generosity makes me want to give back, to other strangers who can soon be friends.

I met Marion and David on a website called WarmShowers. It allows travellings cyclists to stay at the home of other cyclists.

Before I left, Marion & David gave me one more meal, including David’s home made bread.

This is an odd topic to write about, but even their downstairs loo (bathroom in American English) was fun. I used it before leaving, and it redefined the idea of reading while … ya know.

A sign on the wall showed more generosity.

I’ll leave it to you to learn about toilet twinning.

Thanks very much David & Marion. You nudged me toward be more generous, and hopefully folks who read this blog.
