Post for June 1, 2021
As this blog shows, I’ve enjoyed bike tours for 10 years now. This day was one of the best. The pictures don’t show it, but the day ended by staying at a lovely home on an island, more about that in the next blog post.
The song for today is Dreamin’ Man since sometimes, people who dream too much have days like today.
Trails don’t get much better
Later, the trail went by modest lake homes. I like modent.
Later still, I had up-close and personal moments with the Mississippi River.
Pelicans flew over me
For a while, I had to cycle on the busy road on the right, until this bike trail showed up. Eventually, the trail ended, but at least I had a short break from the road.
The neat trees on the left reminded me of Europe.
And sometimes, the River would appear.
The bits in the middle are part of a work-out station for the public, what a great idea to put it on the shore of the Mississippi River.
Another small town, always fun to see.
Of course, I enjoyed this sculpture.
This quiet road was so peaceful and beautiful.
A short while later, the road got better.
I love wildflowers.

My hometown is Rushville, Illinois, which is approximately 60 miles east of Quincy. I worked with several doctors in Quincy. Hannibal, Missouri is Mark Twain land of course.
What state are you in? Looks like fun.
Two days ago, I crossed from Illinois to Missouri to see Mark Twain’s childhood home. I’m still in Missouri, about 50 miles north of St. Louis. It is fun, but sometimes a bit less so. I got caught in another t-storm yesterday, and today, I cycled on a busy road with no shoulder and rumble strips for about 30 miles. I admit that worried me, but overall, I’m enjoying it.
I hope that you are staying safe during this hot spell! Is Gimme Shelter in your tune line up?
