Northern Trails and Lakes

Post for May 17, 2021

I left my new friend Mary’s place in Bemidji, after enjoying another conversation with her and writing to some friends. After a quick stop at a grocery store, I was back on the MRT.

This portion was mostly bike trails which often went by lakes. While going by one lake, I stopped and had a snack with some friendly guys on a patio. Stopping for snacks is becoming a new “problem.” I’m always hungry. According to my smart watch, I’m burning about 3,000 calories a day.

At the end of the day, I camped next to a lake. I stayed up about 2 hours past my bedtime looking at the stars and listening to crickets, frogs, and loons.

The song for this post, from my bike-touring playlist is Stuff That Works.

  1. The numerous lakes and relatively flat terrain are gifts from Mother Nature by way of several recent glaciations. Enjoy!

  2. Love all the photos and listening to the song while looking through them is really cool. Looks like you are seeing some beautiful places! And glad to hear you are making friends along the way

  3. I echo Beth’s comments. Love all the photos and listening to the song while looking through them. And I’m looking forward to more updates from the trail. Stay safe!
