In the morning, I followed a quiet and shaded road by the Mississippi River, a great way to start the day. In the afternoon, I cycled through some of the flattest and longest fields I’ve seen, which often went to the horizon. Those fields offered few places to stop in the shade and rest. I drank a lot of water to stay hydrated even when the water in my bottles was hot from the sun. In this kind of cycling, I keep telling myself that it’s better than mowing the lawn, at least for me.
The song for today shows some of the monotony of cycling through flat fields for hours.
You can see the fun part by water and the less fun part, straight through fields.
Close to a perfect morning, a quiet road by the River.
I wondered if this barge was going to St. Paul, Minnesota.
Going up a gentle, shaded hill.
And going down the same hill, with the River in front.
My friend Sam has toured a bit and describes the days as being a 5-turtled day or some other number. I think this is a 10 turtle day, at least in the morning.
As usual, a small town was fun to see.
I think this town is called Warsaw.
A lovely old home, in need of some TLC.
Then, the fields started.
And the fields continued.
Some dogs were nice enough to follow along, at high speed.
More fields
And more
At the end of the day, I came close to a town and noticed homes built high since the River does flood.
