Rocks, Hills, & A Flying Bike

Post for August 6 & 7

On August 6, we climbed a rocky hill to a peak with an amazing view. I enjoyed the downhill ride a bit too much and felt a rare but slightly familiar feeling.

The back wheel raised off the ground, kept going, rotated over the front wheel, and finally, the back wheel was in front of the front with the bike upside down over me. Surprisingly, I didn’t hurt anything, so I kept cycling, much slower.

August 7 had more relaxed cycling. We had breakfast at a lovely community shop and cafe. It used to be a typical business, but the business didn’t do well and closed, probably due to the town having enough people to keep it profitable.

People in the little town still wanted a shop and cafe, so they made it a community co-op, with members getting some of the profit. The community shop is staffed by volunteers and a few paid staff. I sure wish this would happen in the US sometimes, or more often.
